Day 133 – Cape Disappointment to Astoria – Hello Oregon!

We had another wet day but made it to Astoria, Oregon. One more State to go! We camped last night but are staying at a motel tonight. It is suppose to not rain tomorrow so we are looking forward to a dry day. We got brand new rear cassettes and chains on our bikes when we arrived in Astoria in the afternoon as we knew replacements were due. We had fantastic service at the local bike shop called Bikes and Beyond, and the owner went out of his way to help us. We have his card so we’ll post his name once I get a chance! Afterwards we checked our the Maritime Museum in Astoria which was phenomenal. Outside the museum we met a fellow touring cyclist Jacob. He had started from Seattle and is heading down the same direction as us, so we are hoping to catch up with him tomorrow. More details to be posted shortly!

  1. Enjoy Oregon – it is beautiful and I hope the sun shines so you can enjoy it even more. Katherine – Not sure if you know but your cousin Christy lives in Oregon and would likely be more than happy to put you up if you were needing a place to stay. The driveway to her house is one of the covered bridges in the tourist books. There is also a heritage hotel in her little town that is quite cute. In no time at all you will hit sun and warmth again – only one state away!!

  2. Hi Lisa!

I think Cristy lives inland a bit…we are following the coast down…please correct me if I’m wrong?

    Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. Wishing you sunshine all the way to the Sunshine State – whoops, that might be Florida! Christy lives a good coulple of hours drive in a car from the coast – longer depending on the weather etc. Very interesting drive but LONG on a bicycle. They are on the Interstate 5.

You are travelling one of my favorite routes including Astoria! The Oregon coast is famous for amazing winter storms – let’s hope those hold off for another month! Will be watching for pictures – do NOT skip past the beach at Gold Beach (the town) – an amazing beach! and friendly people in the town.
