We crossed the Provincial border into Ottawa yesterday. We are staying at Steve and Lynn’s place and will be headed up to Dave’s cottage this weekend with Ali for some white water rafting (they got it for us as our wedding gift).
We’ve caught up with some of our pictures for the older posts, but are still working on updates from our adventures over the last week. They should be up in the next few days!
Update from Katherine:
Day 23 – Montebello to Ottawa
We made an early start from Montebello and headed to Manotick, just south of Ottawa, where another bed and meal awaited us with my friends Steve and Lynn.
It was a nice day of cycling, as we were back on the Route Verte and this navigated us around most obstacles, although it seems routed to avoid most stores selling cold drinks.
We arranged to meet an elementary school friend of mine, Emma in Gatineau. I hadn’t seen Emma since we were in grade 9 together, so it was nice to catch up. We had some challenges finding the meeting spot but eventually tracked it down. The cafe had AC so we were there for a couple of hours.
Around 5pm we headed for the bridge to Ontario. We were pretty excited about crossing into Ontario! As we approached the bridge, we noticed someone pushing their bike down the trail with a flat tire. Having decided that our strategy is now to offer assistance, we offered to help him. He had no spare tube or pump. Fortunately, his tires were the same size as ours so we were able to install a new tube for him. Of course, he and Adam watched while the lone female in the group changed and installed the new tube…. (but Adam did assist by pumping up the fixed tire)
On to Ontario! Adam took some great pictures of us crossing the bridge with a beautiful view of the parliament buildings. I I think the view is actually better from the Quebec side. Despite impatience on my part, we also got some pictures from the front with the bikes fully loaded.
At this point, we could see the storm clouds rolling in from the west. We stuck to the bike paths until we got to the experimental farm, then headed straight out to Manotick with a hefty tailwind! We were tired by the time we arrived but Lynn greeted us with an amazing dinner straight from the oven! Thank you Lynn!
