Day 13 – Rain, wind, and 8 degrees by the St. Lawrence River

St. Germain to St-Jean-Port-Joli, PQ

We started the day at Michelle’s house with an awesome breakfast of eggs and toast and fruit. We thanked her profusely for her generous hospitality, especially considered the cold and rainy weather the night before. Gilles drove us to his house, where we had cycled to the previous day. As he drove, he continued to tour us around, taking us to the lighthouse in Saint-Andre and telling us about everyone that lived in town. They were quite reluctant to let us head off into the wind and rain.

We headed out along the trail, with a very strong wind at our backs and a light rain. We continued about 27kms to the tourist office along the trail in La Pocatiere. This was a wonderful tourist office, with heat, tables and chairs inside and a tea/coffee maker. We made the decision to head to Saint-Jean-Port-Joli for the night in a roofed accommodation (Japan is playing tomorrow). My mother gave us some great advice on where to stay.

It was an uneventful cycle into Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, cold and windy and wet, with very little enjoyment of what I’m sure was a beautiful view of the Saint Lawrence River.

After a quick stop at the tourism office to determine which motel would let us stay until the end of the game, we headed to the Boulangerie Sibuet to have soup and sandwiches and hot drinks and to load up for the motel. This bakery is a must stop every time my family comes through town.

We stayed at the Motel La Seigneurie just on the far side of the highway. It was surprisingly nice inside and we would recommend it anyone looking for clean, affordable basic accommodation here.

I cycled back into town to the grocery store and stocked up for the evening while Adam headed over to the truck stop to do some laundry. We are learning how to find places to do all sorts of things on this trip!! Apparently, it was very nice and they had a TV and showers and everything! We relaxed and enjoyed the luxury of hot water and a bathtub!
