We are now nearing the halfway point of our journey. We spent Christmas in Sydney. We flew out of Sydney and arrived in Tasmania last week. We spent New Years in Hobart with Katherine’s mom, and watched the early family fireworks displays. We also got to witness the arrival of some finishers of the famous Sydney to Hobart sail boat race. As a matter of fact we saw them from a distance while at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Boxing Day.
Now at the southern tip of Australia, being much closer to Antarctica, the weather has been drastically much cooler. It has been pleasant during the day, but it has been getting quite cold at night, potentially even reaching single digits here in the mountain areas. We thought we were done with cold weather camping! That being said the camping kitchen facilities have been fantastic so far. While camping outside of Hobart, we visited Bruny Island by the ferry and the coast reminded me of the coastline in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and some parts even like the Bruce National Park in Ontario.
We will be spending two more weeks in Tasmania going around the island. We are currently in the Cradle Mountain area and have spent the day hiking.
