A fierce storm hit the Pacific Coast of Washington and Oregon last night, and is going to continue for the rest of day today and even tomorrow. We rode a tough 144km in the rain yesterday from just outside Brinnon, WA, to Aberdeen, WA. One of the toughest rides we have even done, and also the wettest. I think that was the first time we cycled in that much rain. We must have had a great tail wind because we were flying.
There is a coastal flood warning and high winds along the coast since last night, along with off and on heavy rain, so we decided to take the day off to recuperate, do some bike maintenance, and catch up on our blog. The weather has been beautiful over the last couple of weeks but has definitely turned for the worse since yesterday. We are going to head to the border of Washington and Oregon tomorrow in the rain. It’s suppose to clear up a little for Tuesday and Wednesday as we head further into Oregon.
We have just learned this on the news, but apparently this year is a La Niña season and above average rain is expected for the Pacific North-West this winter. Perhaps because of that, the rainy season might have started a little early and we’ve been caught a little off-guard. We are a couple weeks behind where we had expected to be (took a little too much time in Canada), so we knew we would be in the grey zone between the two seasons, but didn’t think the weather would change so drastically! There is not much we can do at this point so we are going to just cross our fingers and head South without lingering around too much!
Updates from the last week to be posted shortly!
