Day 124 – Arrived in Victoria – 7500km and the end of our trip across Canada!

When we woke up this morning, the air was a bit chilly but it seemed that the sun might come out. We packed up the tent and headed west towards Victoria. We decided that we would detour to the Bouchart Gardens on our way down. Amazingly, there were marked cycling routes the entire way! When we arrived at the gardens, the gateperson allowed us to store our entire bikes in their luggage storage room, which was amazing and gave us peace of mind.

We really enjoyed the gardens, they were gorgeous and very restful. Adam took some amazing pictures and we spent several hours there. From the gardens, we cycled into Victoria, taking a couple of detours along the way. It was such a cycling friendly city, though, that it didn’t really matter where we went, we felt safe cycling. We met some recreational cyclists along the way and Adam chatted to them about our trip ( I was shopping).

On arriving to Victoria, we headed for Mile 0 of the Trans-Canada Highway. It was a beautiful spot by the Ocean, and the sun was shining brilliantly. I called my parents and they were glad to hear we had arrived.  We had our picture taken by a passing motorist who couldn’t believe we had actually cycled from PEI! We headed back along the waterfront to see if we could find a ramp to dip our tires in the Pacific Ocean. We found one and got several pictures taken! We have gone as far West as we can…time to head South!

After our photo session, we headed to Starbucks for a warm drink and free internet. We booked into a nice hotel on Priceline for 2 nights and plan to spend the day exploring Victoria tomorrow. We went for a lovely walk in the evening and saw the parliament building all lit up with Christmas lights!
