We decided to stay for the weekend as well in Kelowna with Olya. We ended up spending almost a week but Olya seemed to enjoy the company 🙂 On Saturday we took a rental vehicle up to the Kettle Valley Railroad Trail which we had been hearing about from other cyclists on our trip. It was a 800m climb on a rather steep dirt rode so we were glad we did not bike up.. The area was absolutely beautiful. It used to be the old railroad so the grade is never more than 2~3%. There were 18 trestles that we crossed in less than 10km. Many of them had burnt down in a major forest fire about 7 years ago, but they had all been rebuilt for the use of cyclists and walkers. We wished we could take the trail the entire way but from what we heard you really need a mountain bike because of the surface in many parts of the trail. That night Olya cooked us an amazing Russian meal of borsch!
Since we couldn’t return the rental on the Sunday we decided to drive out to the hot springs that we couldn’t get to on our bicycles in Nakusp. It was a long drive and it made it for a long day, but it was well worth it. We had found some incredible back country hot springs on the internet that were absolutely phenomenal. There were even places to camp for free right beside them! There were many people who were camping there. It was just so incredible to see hot water coming out of the ground naturally. There was even several tubs made out of rocks by the river, where you could feel the hot springs water and the cold water from the river at the same time! We wished so much that we had hot springs in the east coast! We felt incredibly relaxed and well afterwards.
