We left Vernon feeling well rested. The weather was warm and sunny, which was so nice after several days in the cold wet weather. You could tell the area is dry from the landscape. There was very few vegetation on the hills. We stopped at a fruit stand and had a quick snack and some fresh fruit. Katherine even made a friend while we were there (although he was particularly interested in the food).
To get off the highway we took a detour around Wood lake. Just at the start of the detour, we decided to stop for a few pictures. There was an RV there and the owner and I had a little chat. Then Katherine came up and asked where they were from (she noticed the PEI license plates). Turns out they were from just outside Stanley Bridge in PEI! We had a great time talking to them about each other’s trips. They had been planning for their trip for almost 10 years, and they were driving to San Diego and then eventually back to PEI.
The detour around Wood Lake was very nice as we cycled through fields of fruit trees and Vineyards. Traffic was almost non-existent, and we were glad to have taken the route (thanks Patti!).
We did eventually have to get back on the highway, which had a nice shoulder but the traffic was very heavy. We managed to get off of it after a few kilometers, and cycled a detour around the airport. As soon as we got near the city of Kelowna, the bicycle lanes started, which was fantastic. We were able to take it all the way into the downtown area to Olya’s apartment! One of the smoothest entrances into a city!
We spent about 20min at a coffee shop until Olya got off work. It was really nice to meet up with her as we had been looking forward to spending a few days relaxing with her around Kelowna.
