Day 98 – Hiking in the sun at Lake Louise

Today, we woke to a layer of snow on the ground!!! We took some pictures and made a quick exit to the cooking shelter, which, fortunately was nice and warm!

We made breakfast and layered up to go hiking. We walked from the campground up the the Chateau Lake Louise and sat in the lobby for a while and used their beautiful bathrooms. Then we headed up the Plain of Six Glaciers trail. Along the way, the clouds cleared and we got some gorgeous views of the mountains. We saw our first mountain goats and Adam got some great pictures! We saw more picas along the way. When we got to the top of the trail, we stopped at the teahouse and had some decadent coffe and hot chocolate. After, we ate our lunch and admired the sourroundings! We headed to the lookout and got some views of the Lower and Upper Victoria Glaciers and of the Abbot Pass Hut. We had to wait for the clouds to be just so to see the hut. It was very high up and it would be super hard to climb up there!

We cut back along the Lake Agnes Highline trail and saw the Lake. Unfortunately, the teahouse was closed. Adam got some cool pictures of the Lake and the birds on the teahouse porch. We hiked down the mountain at high speed as it was getting late in the day and we were going to be tight making it back before dark.

We stopped at the Chateau again on our way back to use the washroom and decided that we didn’t have quite enough time for tea in the cafe that overlooks Lake Louise but vowed to get back there someday. We rested in the lobby for a bit and then walked down the road. We hitched a ride with a Parks Canada Visitor information centre worker down to the campground and walked back in.

We cooked on the wood stove yet again and made pasta with veggies and cheese, based on the meal we had at Eileen’s and Raoul’s. We had less success with ours than Raoul did, although it was still passable. We chatted once again at the shelter and met two cyclists from Slovenia who had cycled from Anchorage, Alaska to Lake Louise and were headed for Calgary. They told some good stories and a sad one about having had their food bag stolen by some drunk people in BC. One of the cyclist had been biking ever since with only 1 front panier. They lost food for two weeks plus one of their expensive panniers! It was sad to hear and I hope they don’t suffer any more misfortune on their trip.
