We had a slow start to the day as it was once again cold and raining! We sat by the wood stove in the cooking shelter and stayed nice and warm.
In the afternoon, Satomi and Tritan gave us a ride to Lake Morraine as it looked like the rain might let up a bit. We had a nice time hiking along the lake and got some great view when the clouds lifted briefly. We also saw our first pica, a rabbit relative that lives in rocky mountain areas and (we think) the basis for Picachu in Pokeman. We also saw an amzing rainbow! Thank you Satomi and Tristan for driving us there, it was great to get out of the campground for a bit!
After our little hike, Matthew dropped in on his way home from BC. We headed to the grocery store and bought supplies for soup for dinner. I cooked it on the wood stove and it was amazing. We had another social night in the cooking shelter and met our first set of touring cyclist in a long time. Three guys from France who were cycling East to West from Montreal to Vancouver. They had left August 11th and had only taken one rest day (Velorution in Sault Ste Marie) so far! We had a great chat about spots we had both stopped on the road. We also met up with the Australians from the night before and a couple from Tasmania and some hitch hikers from France. A very international crowd! During the evening it started snowing outside and Matthew and I had the first snowball fight of the year!
After a great visit with Matthew, he headed back to Calgary. Turns out he got stuck in Canmore until 4am with the road being closed due to the snow and 2 jackknifed trailers. Only in Canada do you have problems like this in September!
Our tent sagged a bit with the snow but otherwise held up well, although we were a touch cold.
