Day 66 – Little Pine Lake to Rushing River Provincial Park

We started off the day in Little Pine Lake a bit slowly as it was hard to get going in such a beautiful setting. We made grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast and they were great at keeping us full for longer. We cycled into Nestor Falls and stopped at the visitors centre and for a quick picture of the falls.

We headed towards Sioux Narrows for lunch. This part of the ride was along Lake of the Woods but you can’t see it from the road very often so it seemed to be more hills and rocks and trees.

As we entered Sioux Narrows, I saw a little fox by the side of the road. It was definitely not afraid of us (looked busy hunting) and Adam took some nice pictures.

In Sioux Narrows we found an awesome place to have lunch, with covered picnic tables, wifi, washrooms and a food vendor. After much ingredient checking, I was able to get an Iced Cappuccino while Adam got a frozen lemonade. After lunch, Adam stayed to do some internet stuff and I headed to the general store to get some food. It was definitely an independent grocer…set up completely different from anything I have ever seen. For fresh meat they had, pork chops or chicken legs…interesting options.

We decided not to try and make it into Kenora today as it was going to be a long ways and we would have to head west on Hwy 17 as the sun was low in the sky. We try and avoid this as it makes us very hard to see.

We called ahead to Rushing River Provincial Park and found out they rented sea kayaks (our other mutual passion)! We were very excited and decided to take a rest day there. When we pulled into the campground, it was super full but we got a site close to the bathrooms and beach. The charge was typical of Ontario Parks…but you have to live a little sometimes..
