After an awesome breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes (at Pancake Bay of all places), we headed for Agawa Bay, climbing the famous Montreal River Harbour hill along the way. This is the hill that Terry Fox wore a special t-shirt about the hill to inspire him to make it over the top.
The views today were absolutely spectacular. The road cut through rock cliffs and overlooked Lake Superior as we climbed and descended. The shoulder was quite decent most of the way.
In Montreal River Harbour, we made a quick stop at the Northgate gas station and said goodbye to services until Wawa.
It was a very windy day and we were headed right into the wind (again off of Lake Superior!), so we were glad to arrive fairly early at the campground. We got a gorgeous site right by the water. I tucked in for a quick nap while Adam explored the campground. We found out there was a talk about “Roads in Canada” on at the visitor’s centre by the author of a book about it (sorry we failed to get his name and his book’s name!! We’ll do our best to remember as we try to google him) in the evening and we headed to that after dinner. It was very interesting, especially when he reminded us what is in the yellow fluid filled containers that we see on the side of the road all the time (ugh!)… He had many other great neat tidbits about the building of the Trans-Canada Highway. It was especially interesting to us since we are biking every day on the roads! We definitely would have got his book, only if we had the extra room in our bags! We had a nice chat with him and his wife after his presentation, and they gave us some tips on some beautiful sites that are off the road as we head into Manitoba.
A quick cup of tea and we were off to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the sand!
