Day 30 – Manotick to Ottawa

Day 30 – July 15th, 2010 – Manotick to Ottawa

We first said our good-byes to our fury friends Winston and Jake at Steve and Lynn’s house (we said our good byes to Steve and Lynn the night before as they had to head out to work early in the morning). We wanted to say our good byes to their cats Arthur and Sylvester as well but they were not at the entrance but were in their own world in the house somewhere.

Today was a short ride to gently reintroduce us to cycle touring after our recovery week of rafting and cottaging. We left our friends in Manotick mid-morning and headed into Ottawa to stay at another friend’s place. We took the bike route down Woodroffe Ave and into Ottawa via the bike paths along the canal. We ran into some problems with a bike lane being closed and had to detour down a trail and over a guardrail, not fun with a 100lbs bike and gear. With some cooperation, we made it over the rail!

We arrived at Renzo and Leslie’s around 3pm, in time to see them before they headed out for the weekend. We met up with my friend Christine from elementary school in PEI and had a wonderful evening over dinner at this really neat organic bakery and cafe, Oat Wild on Bank Street. They had a variety of soy free options and even make their own (soy free) spelt bread! We all had a sandwich and their amazing crepes. We then spotted a two person bike (but not a tandem, on this one you ride side by side!) and also the Royal Bank that was firebombed that we had heard about in the news a little while ago!

Thanks to Renzo and Leslie for letting us stay with them and to Christine for a nice evening out!
