Day 21 – Montreal to D’Oka
It took us all day to escape the suburbs of Montreal! We left Adam’s aunt and uncle’s in the morning and followed the beautiful bike paths along the south shore off the island of Montreal. We enjoyed this but it involved a lot of detailed route findings and map checks. We took some great pictures along the water!
We made a nice stop at a Patisserie that had AC and awesome croissants, conveniently located across from a bike shop. I bought a review mirror to match Adam’s at the bike shop.
We decided to cross the ferry to Oka and head for the “Parc Nationale” for the night on the advice of a local cyclist. On arrival to Oka, the tourist office was closed but the man at the corner store assured me it was only 2km away. It turned out to be about 5kms, but along gorgeous bike lanes.
We arrived to the park and paid our outrageous fees ($25 for an unserviced site, but they charge you two days worth of park entry fees..) and headed to the beach for a well deserved swim. At the front desk, we had been warned to avoid the poison ivy and of the vicious racoons in the park.
We made dinner and showered (for which we also had to pay) and treed our food to keep it away from the racoons. Boy were we glad we did. The visits started as soon as we got in the tent and continued all night! Now I am a sound sleeper and missed all the excitement….but Adam reports that we were even a teaching ground for baby racoons. He did not sleep well and was very tired in the morning.
