We are a couple who cycled across North America for a distance of roughly 10,000kms back in 2010. We departed on June 16th, 2010, from Prince Edward Island, Canada, and cycled to San Diego, California, U.S.A. We always wanted to see our country and visit the pacific coast of the United States, and we thought what better way than with our own energy on bicycles. We felt very fortunate to be able to do such a trip, knowing that many around the world can not for so many reasons. Since it was one of those special once in a life time occasion for us, we are trying to do our bit and take the opportunity to also raise awareness for the American and Canadian Lung Associations (since you can’t bike without good lungs and we all want clean air). We hope that we can inspire you through our stories as we have been inspired by others before us, and that you enjoy following our journey!
Hi Adam and Katherine

We met you at Indian Head. We were the couple from Saskatoon, who were riding a Honda Goldwing. We so enjoyed meeting you that we checked out your blog last night after we got home. We are looking forward to checking in on your progress from time to time. Bike safe. Hope the weather was better today.

So excited to see you have crossed into Alberta. And, just in case you missed it, those aren’t elk – they are antelope! So lucky you got so close to these speedy animals! See you soon.

Make that pronghorn antelope (but not a real antelope apparently) but not a deer either as it cannot leap high fences like deer. See following: A small, trim animal, standing about 90 cm high at the shoulder, the pronghorn is the fastest North American mammal. It is capable of speeds estimated at 80-95 km/h in short bursts. Pronghorns travel in small herds, and signal each other by raising the white hair on their rumps which flashes in the sunlight for long distances on the prairie. They can see long distances and have very keen eyesight. Male and female have branched or pronged horns of approximately 3-7 cm horns. The outer sheath or horn is hair that is shed each fall. Thus making them not a “true” antelope. Aside from their identifying horns, they also have 2 white bars across the throat, white markings on rump and underparts and the bucks have black patches behind the jaw
Your wildlife lesson for the day!! LOL

Hi Adam and Katherine,
We have been checking your blog frequently with interest. Steve thinks you should buy a big umbrella and attach it to your bike so you can make good use of those tail winds. Glad you have made it through Saskatchewan and are into Alberta. Bike safe, and bike fast. We are getting a little worried about you doing the mountains in mid to late September!!! We will both sleep better when we know you are on the other side.

Hi Steve and Lynell! We can’t believe how cold it’s been around here lately. The mountains don’t look any warmer, but I’m sure climbing them will warm us up! 🙂

Welcome to sunny Alberta – sigh! Sure hope it warms up for you. Watching to see where your next post pops up – heard rumours you might head for Drumheller first. Be safe.

Nice to see you are “On the Road Again”. I am sure the Rockies will prove to be one of the most beautiful parts of your journey, but also one of the most challenging.
We will enjoy reading about your progress. Bike safe!
